To
His Excellency, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin
Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)
Government of Malaysia

Your Excellency,
We are members of the ‘Voice for Global Bangladeshis – VfGB’ based in London and we try to represent the 15 million ‘Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs)’ who live and work in USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Middle East, South East Asia and Australia, in their hours of need and
stress.
These NRBs work hard in their host countries and send their hard-earned money to Bangladesh to feed their family members. This year, the worldwide Corona pandemic has put a great majority of these NRBs in great hardship.
In this global disaster, many NRBs have lost their jobs, work permits and shelter in the countries they work, many are being refused safe return to their village homes by their home country due to shortage of air transport, money and. planning.
Our job is to raise their issues with host countries particularly, in the Middle East and with their home country Bangladesh. We have, in the meantime, written letters to the Ministers in charge of relevant ministries in Bangladesh ie the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Overseas Welfare for helping them.
We would like to express our gratitude to you and to your Government for the following:
- Your Government assisted all the foreign students in Malaysia during lockdown time, especially in the first 2 months of the Corona Pandemic. We were told that students from Bangladesh and other countries; were provided free meals at their hostels and that, this was a huge support to survive the first impact of the Corona pandemic.
- On matters of foreign workers in Malaysia, there were some media reporting which drew our attention. But we noted with great satisfaction, that the Malaysian Government under your kind leadership, considered matters on humanitarian grounds and resolved those issues ensuring the rights and privileges of foreign workers. Hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshi workers (the NRBs) thus could preserve their jobs as well as the required health and food safety under the supervision of the relevant authorities of your Excellency’s Government.
To our understanding, during this Covid-19 crisis, this is the biggest humanitarian commitment from your Excellency’s Government to foreign workers working in Malaysia.
Most other countries reduced their workforces failing to continue operating their factories and manufacturing facilities. As a result of which, hundreds of thousands of overseas workers are being compelled to go back to home countries losing their jobs.
We, therefore, on behalf of all the Non-Resident Bangladeshis in Malaysia and, on behalf of our worldwide Organisation the ‘Voice for Global Bangladeshis’; would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude and thanks to you and to your Government.
With our best regards,
Dr. Hasanat Mohammad Husain MBE
